How often does transmission service really extend the lifespan of the gearbox and improve performance?

Lately I’ve started hearing a faint whining sound from my gearbox when shifting, especially on cold mornings. I’m not sure if it’s something serious or just normal aging, but it made me think about transmission service. I’ve had the car for years and honestly never paid much attention to that part, just regular oil changes. Do you guys feel that doing the service actually makes a big difference in how long the transmission lasts? I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth doing now or if I’m overthinking it.

From my experience, it does help, especially if you’ve already got a few miles on the car. I skipped transmission service on my old sedan and eventually started getting rough shifts, which turned into a bigger repair. On my current car, I’ve been doing the fluid changes and inspections on time, and the gearbox feels way smoother compared to my previous one. If you want a quick rundown of what usually gets checked or replaced, take a look at Steering alignment transmission repair in Bristol PA — it helped me understand what was actually being done during the service instead of just guessing. It’s not a miracle fix, but keeping clean fluid in the system definitely kept things healthier for me.
